யாதுமாகி நின்றேன் - கவி இளவல் தமிழ் // Book review

First of, not a fan of books that has a collection of poems. I'll tell you why later. We sometime chuck things in an aisle and some things drop into our basket on their own. This book landed in my hands because of a series of events, none of them conscious or planned. But good all the same. I've never read/heard a book like this otherwise, and I don't really think I will moving forward. Touchwood! You are told a back story because, that's how it is to read this. That's how it feels like to dwell in each one of them Poems. You might not see it all, but you'd at least see the curtain that has it all behind. You just cannot not do that. The author puts forth strong opinions, issues that are hard to think, even harder to confront in their honest colors before you. Purple, black, yellow, pink and a blaring red -  Bold, honest, warm, innocent and anger. Plain and simple. One thing I liked about the book is it's very raw. Its edges sharp and cutting. There...

Table For One - Neha Bindal - Book Review

Image
Table for one is a story true to its roots. The story revolves around Taara, a lawyer who's at one point of time chooses herself over timeline and expectations. And following that she only chooses herself, unapologetically. Honest, simple and refreshing is how I'd put her character forward. The author takes us through the places and people in vivid details that you see it all. But as is her journey, the supporting characters fleet away without leaving much to ponder. The romance is smartly taken light, not over powering the plot but flavoring the pages just right. The characterization of Fred and Taara stands out among all. Aquick read, one time, gripping first half and light for the heart. Pros The plot. 4/5 Fairly good narrative. 3/5 Neha's jounery. 5/5 Sticks close to realtiy. Nothing over dramatic. 4/5 Cons Other language references. It hinders the flow of the read. Also, makes the book claim a region. Cutting it off from the entire thing getting reached ...

A little tot she...

A little tot, with her button nose and chubby cheeks caught my eye in the bus today. Her light frame swayed to the jerks and brakes of the crowded bus. But she was too busy. Too busy with her eyes, which were sliding fast all over, gliding over every side her ears picked up a noise. A "hey", whistles, horn, taps, somebody's loud laugh, she missed nothing. Curling her fists in air, she tried grabbing something in her hand for herself. Restless much; trying to soak it all she was so excited in her mom's hold. Her roving eyes and its twinkle; that zest and eagerness she was dripping with, I recognized that. Back then, when love arrived I wasn't any different!

Equations of a being - In conversation with a book! ~ Book Review

4 STARS " A reader can never escape from the hope and anxiety of a writer,  and a writer from that of the universe." - Ashutosh Gupta  These two lines that I read in the first half of the book kind of resonated in my mind with every quote till the last. The book is in parts, in segregated sections and with a thought in each page you pass. There were some lines I re-read to understand and felt funny, for, they gave me different perceptions and overlapped opinions every time. More than a few 'wow' and 'awesome' came out of me all through the read. And there were some where I stopped and just stared at the words. So much in so little would suffice this book aptly, dare I say. I've followed this Author for a decent time now, and I've always liked his way of penning down trivial, overlooked things in a deep conceived perspective. This book is so full of them. You'll change your mind about something, then change again and then again. Thoug...

The wait!

Back then, standing between dad's legs riding the scooter in the evening from school, I'm told that I talked a lot on the way home. I don't remember it. The last time I rode a bus, the last time I had a travel that didn't drift me to hows, whys and what ifs of my life; I don't remember it either. Past few years have been tough. I've lost people physically, figuratively and emotionally. Touched lows, lost my way and stranded many; goals included. I'm not really proud of the way I handled things, but that was that. Today I wanted to talk again. Out of nowhere and with ease. About the wee kid who had three different colored hair ties on her head, about the old couple who wouldn't stop bickering, about the school kids who were looking so worn out by the end of the day, about the lovelorn, sad girl by the window seat. About the teens who passed shy smiles so ridiculously, about the annoying driver who wouldn't stop the horn, of the song that came th...

The Three Psychos - One time thriller! Book review

Image
2/5 STARS This book is a compilation of three stories, three people, three personalities. All of them suffering, fighting something. Set separate they all start and end neatly. The second one was the one I liked the most comparatively. The book was neat, written simply and for easy understanding but somewhere for me it lacked the thrill. It could be different for you though. I personally didn't have a rush to finish it in a sitting. The other two stories didn't really work for me. Albeit, the epilogue was something that got a 'wow' out of me. Good job there, really. This book is more like a light read, probably in between two intense books. This could work well like a breather. But honestly, an one time read for me. :)

KANSA - A gripping read! Book review

Image
4 STARS The book starts with a cliched scene and you will foresee what will happen next. And that's just about it. Because after that you can't guess anything that goes inside. Excerpt ; OVER A SPAN OF TEN YEARS, HE KILLED FORTY PREGNANT WOMEN AND THEN VANISHED WITHOUT A TRACE. AFTER FIVE YEARS OF SILENCE, HE IS BACK AGAIN, SEEKING HIS NEXT VICTIM. ONLY ONE MAN CAN STOP HIM - PROFESSOR BLACK. With a story line that's teasing and a cover that's intriguing it doesn't take much to dive into KANSA. The story travels with the investigating officer Saargi and Prof. Black's quests while they chase this serial, brutal murderer. There are sub stories, and they all stand unique. To a point though, then they all come together. Past, present and everything in between. It gets dirtier, darker and heartless but never a second lacks its speed or vibe. The author has done a commendable job writing this. The narration is fairly captivating and executed so smart. Wi...
